Northart is excited to host a solo exhibition of highly accomplished contemporary artist Hye Rim Lee.
Hye Rim Lee is a prolific contemporary artist working in a wide range of artistic modes including animation, performance and design.
Lee’s 3D animations call into question the role of technology in image making and representation. Her work explores instinct, fantasy and sexual innuendo through mythological elements of identity.
This exhibition will debut Black Rose, a never before seen animation created by Lee over the course of eight years and completed in 2020.
Alongside this new mixed media artworks will compliment the animation. In our second gallery work from two previous iterations of Lee’s practice will be featured, Candyland and Crystal City.
This will be the first time Crystal City has been on display in New Zealand.
Black Rose and Crystal City will open with an event on Sunday 14 February from 4pm to 6pm, and then run daily at Northart until 28 March.
Public programming for this exhibition will include a ‘Conversation with the Artist’ on Sunday 14 March at 1pm and a workshop with Hye Rim Lee on Saturday 27 March at 12pm. More specific details will be announced on Northart’s website and social media.
